ukefied (oneshot, gen) Hikaru muses on the games he plays at Touya Kouyo's go salon with Akira. One of the most canon takes on the Hikaru/Akira relationship I have seen in fanfiction. I really enjoyed how Mina writes Hikaru, and this fic just fits as a missing scene from the manga.

Grey by treneka (series, WIP) A series of interconnected oneshots that build a bigger story surround Hikaru, Touya Akira, Akari, and Hikaru's daughter, Kinume. While you might think I've gone over to the dark side recommending a straight!Hikaru fic, but this series is so worth it. The author focuses more on the relationship between Hikaru and Touya as rivals as well as going on an interesting side plot about Kinume later in the series. Terrific writing and a new way of looking at the characters and a possible future for them.

jengou A look at the invincible Touya Akira during Hikaru's time as an insei. OMG, the Naruto analogy, you just have to read for that. There's a lot of other good stuff, but you have to check this fic out for that scene. Giggle worthy, but good solid writing in there too. Don't want to spoil it, so I'll refrain from further comments.

"You made a huge deal of stopping at the newsstand yesterday during lunch break, you said you were going to buy Weekly Go, I lent you money for it!!"

"Oh right, well, I was gonna buy it, but then it turned out that the new Weekly Jump was out, and I only had enough money for one..so..." Hikaru trailed off, realizing that maybe he'd done something wrong.

Only a Year by

svz_insanity (oneshot, gen) Waya thinks about Hikaru's progression as an insei. Why I like this fic? It hits one of my fanfic kinks, describing the main character from the point of view of a supporting character. Hikaru rocks my world, and I actually liked Waya's voice here. Nicely done.

A Promise That Will Be Kept by Viridian (series, WIP, gen) Taking place directly after the manga ends, Viridian follows a very canon interpretation of how the series would progress. Promise is charming in the same way the Hikago is charming, and I like how the plot is progressing.

Hikaru's eyes narrowed.

No, his Go did not fail. He had played his best, and he had lost to a stronger player. It was no different - should be no different - from a loss to Touya, or Morashita-sensei, for that matter. Only his pride was injured - it stung painfully, but he knew this pain well. In his mind's eye, he could still see the furious disappointment in Touya's glare during their match at Kaio Junior High and the off-hand disdain when they came face-to-face again in the summer when Sai made his appearance in the world of internet Go. He had grown rapidly then, and now would be no different.

Sai's Go had taken root in him, and if it had not bloomed in time for this match against Ko Yeong-Ha, it would blossom one day - and that one day would not too late to remind that insolent bastard (very, very forcefully) that Shuusaku's legacy was relevant for the ages. He'd see to it that Ko Yeong-Ha would be sent packing straight for the nearest volume of Shuusaku's kifus.

reality_is (ficlet, gen, Touya Kouyo) A scene chronicling Touya Kouyo and his how he is always waiting for Sai. Very nicely written. It got to me.
