flonnebonne *very, very, spoilerific* A look at the scene where Touya Akira spies his father waiting at the empty goban for Sai. A beautiful fleshing out of that scene that really captures the emotion and depth that Obata illustrated and Hotta kind of left to interpretation. This fic goes right up there in canon.

The Lacquer Box by

penguin474 (oneshot, shounen-ai, AkiHika) Hikaru thinks about the people and things that have changed his life. It's hard to describe a fic where my favorite part is the ending, but I have to say that The Lacquer Box is a good, solid fic, and the author really sold me on the Hikaru/Akira interaction and eventual relationship. Yep, and beautiful writing, too.

He arrived unexpectedly, as I've noticed people tend to do, particularly people who will be important. He departed equally unexpectedly, very quietly, when I had nodded into exhausted sleep at the Go board in the middle of a game. To say I missed him doesn't describe even a fraction of how I felt. My grief and sorrow eventually scarred over like badly healed wounds that still hurt sometimes, much like once broken bones will ache dully when the weather's rainy or cold.

Gentle Invasion by

penguin474 (oneshot, shounen-ai, AkiHika) A conversation between Hikaru and Akira. Very clever and well done. Penguin's Hikaru and Akira are gush worthy.

A Game For Two by

thehoyden (oneshot, shounen-ai, AkiHika) Hikaru and Touya travel to a go conference, but this fic is so much more than that. It reads like any other "Shindou and Touya go do something" fanfic, but

thehoyden really knows how to subtlely weave in little bits about the characters in her/his fics too, to make them shine.

One Thing by

thehoyden (oneshot, definite yaoi, AkiHika) Rating: NC-17, for competitive boytouching

thehoyden decided that there needed to be more sex in the hikago fandom, and boy am I glad. This fic is great on both fronts, building up the sexual relationship between Hikaru and Akira, and demonstrating how the two boys are still rivals and friends. And omghotboysex! This will make you hot and bothered.

Touya is cool and framed by his dark hair and dark suit, and he looks regal and composed in that way that Shindou is never going to be, not in a million years.

They're in the men's room, and Touya flicks his eyes at Shindou, pinning him like a butterfly. "You lost, Shindou. Are you going to honor your wager?"

Shindou won't take anyone, least of all Touya, insulting his honor like that. "Of course I will," he bites off. "One thing. I have to do one thing that you ask. So what's it going to be?"

Breaking A Few Eggs by

lynnmonster (oneshot, yaoi, Ashiwara/Ogata (also Ogata/OFCs, Ashiwara/Saeki)) Ashiwara is sick of Ogata taking him for granted. A serious Ashiwara/Ogata fic, I really liked how the author handled the pairing, making it believeable and not all cake and roses. Also, assertive!Ashiwara. *swoon*

Forsaking All by

waxrose (oneshot, shounen-ai, Akira/Sai, Akira/Hikaru, Hikaru/Sai-ish) What I like about this fic is that it takes a different spin on what we know about Hikaru and Sai. It's an interesting take on what Sai is and made me think.

Just Friends by

trixie_chick (ficlet, shounen-ai, Ashiwara/Saeki) An extremely cute fic that works really well. It paints both characters nicely and it gives you warm fuzzy feelings.
