The Hithch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the absurd comedy series, by the late Douglas Adams is in a genre all by itself. The leaps and bounds that Adams can go through to create dialog and situations for the characters just blow me away and when I can find a fanfic author who can come close to Adams, I just have to snatch up their work and read it over and over again.

A Mistake (oneshot, Ford/Arthur) and Tea Time (oneshot, Ford/Authur) by KittySister
Better Than Tea by afrai (oneshot, Ford/Arthur)
Not Exactly The Galaxy's Greatest Romance by Daegaer (oneshot, Ford/Arthur)
Three Arguments Against Suicide by afrai (oneshot, Ford/Arthur)
That Tongue Thing by [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie (oneshot, slash, Ford/Arthur)
Last Man Standing by [livejournal.com profile] jmtorres (oneshot, Ford/Arthur)
More Things In Heaven And Earth by [livejournal.com profile] prillilar (oneshot, slash, Ford/Arthur)

All of KittySister's Hitch Hiker fanfiction, most notably A Mistake (oneshot, Ford/Arthur) and Tea Time (oneshot, Ford/Authur) KittySister writes Ford/Arthur just how the way I like them. Their relationship is on the absurd side, bot at the same time it's the absurdity that has brought them together. A Mistake and Tea Time are both short scenes that you can picture being written in the book by Adams. Good stuff.

Better Than Tea by afrai (oneshot, Ford/Arthur) Zaphod asks Ford why he saved Arthur and Ford has an interesting answer. Funny, funny stuff. This cookie knows how to write in that wild and zany way that Adams does to make you just happy. There is also a companion piece.

Not Exactly The Galaxy's Greatest Romance by Daegaer (oneshot, Ford/Arthur) Companion to Better Than Tea, actually more like a continuation, where Arthur says one time too many that his morals don't agree with sleeping with Ford. Ford gets fed up with him. I think I might actually like Not Exactly The Galaxy's Greatest Romance more than Better Than Tea and that's saying a lot. Some of the stuff that Daegaer comes up with , you wonder where she/he gets it.

"Sorry? You did not. The words, 'Arthur, let's run away to outer space and go to bed together' never crossed your lips. I'd have remembered."

"Well, I didn't use those precise words, no. But what about that awful film club? With those awful lectures? Specifically the one about how science-fiction films all portray a repressed homoerotic desire for the negation of the self in the arms of the totalitarian world-machine Eternal Mother Goddess, expressed as an infantile sexualised fascist abduction fantasy, then? During which you said 'God, I wish someone would abduct me, I can't take much more of this'?"

Three Arguments Against Suicide by afrai (oneshot, Ford/Arthur) And to round out the past two fanfic recs, we bring you one more by Afrai. Arthur Dent and the eccentric courtship rituals of the natives of the small planets in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. It made me giggle. Go read!

That Tongue Thing by [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie (oneshot, slash, Ford/Arthur) Ford Prefect wakes up after a night of drunken revelry. It's not exactly right. Hot monkey sex and Douglas Adams characters. *sigh*

Ford Prefect woke up pleasantly drunk.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy defines "pleasantly drunk" as "A subjective state that varies for all beings, dependent on such factors as individual metabolism, desired level of intoxication, whether or not one has to go to work the next morning, and sheer dumb luck."

Last Man Standing by [livejournal.com profile] jmtorres (oneshot, Ford/Arthur) Ford tells Arthur why he saved him from Earth's destruction.

If life as you know it was about to end on your planet, and you could escape with one other person, who would you take with you?

More Things In Heaven And Earth by [livejournal.com profile] prillilar (oneshot, slash, Ford/Arthur) A serious look at Arthur's shock to the Earth being demolished. Ford comforts him. Nicely written and I like the arthor's portrayal of Arthur. She makes him seem vulnerable and real while still being the lovable Arthur from the series.

"Arthur." Someone handed him a handkerchief and he blew his nose.

"Is all of space this cold?" He began to shake.

"You're going into shock." Something draped across Arthur's shoulders and Ford appeared in front of him.

"Ford, I can't move. Are we in some sort of stasis field?"

"No, you're in shock."

"Right. Is there a fish for that too?"
