More Hikago recommendations! One of my true fandoms as I am actually familiar with all aspects of canon: manga and anime. Woot!

I Know the Meaning of Sacrifice by
lady_addiction (oneshot, gen) A character piece on Akira right before his game with Hikaru at the Junior High Go Tournament. I really liked this piece.
lady_addiction really captured Touya's emotions and motivations for being Kaio's third board and all it entailed to play Hikaru again. Nice and elegantly written, Sacrifice felt to me like an interlude that was left out of the manga.
He knew that he had badly underestimated Shindou when they first played. He did not do so the second time around.
Still he lost.
It was exhilarating. Frightening.
Like freefalling from a great height.
Left-Handed Go by
tsukikoushi (oneshot, gen humor) Touya has gotten into an accident where he can only use his left hand. Hikaru tries to cheer him up by challenging him to a match of left-handed go. Hilarity ensues. What I really like about this fanfic is how Hikaru so effortlessly tries to cheer up Touya. He needs his rival in playing form, damn it! Lol, also it's just plain funny.
Culture Shock by
bekkalynn (oneshot, AkiHika) And sometimes you just recommend a fanfic for the punchline. Set when the three boys and Kurata are staying together in preparation for the Hokuto Cup. Bwahaha, so funny.
A Mind of His Own by Midou-kun (series, complete, gen, dark) After deleting my previous cheesy summary, the author introduces the fic like so, "Hikaru confesses Sai's existence to Touya, but does not get the support he expected. Torn between illusion and reality, Hikaru starts losing sight of whether or not he believes himself." Why do I like this fanfic? It takes an interesting spin on the hikaru no Go universe. In most fanfiction written about Hikaru's eventual confession to Touya, Hikaru is readily and if not readily, then reluctantly believed. Why is that? Who would seriously believe in the existence of ghosts? Midou-kun explores this issue and brings up fascinating concepts on the relationship between Hikaru and Sai that to me just brings this fic to a whole new level.
"Touya-kun, there's... something I've come to tell you. You have to understand." His voice was shaky, his face pallid. He looked at Akira with pleading eyes, as if this meeting had taken everything he had.
He reeled in confusion. "Calm down, what's wrong? Here, sit." He motioned for Hikaru to sit down in the chair across the table, usually reserved for the students of the young player.
"Touya-kun, do you remember?" he ran a hand through his hair, calmed his nerves. Breathing deeply, he continued. "Do you remember what happened three years ago?"
Together by Tsaiko (oneshot, shounen-ai, AkiHika) Did I mention I was an original idea whore? Yes? Well, I am. When an author can take an idea and run with it and make me incorporate it into my little version of canon, then we know we're in business. This fanfic? Hikaru and Akira achieve the Hand of God.
Two Hands (But Not of Go) by
thehoyden (oneshot, shounen-ai, AkiHika) Sometimes you want to see Hikaru and AKira go through mountains to be together and sometimes you want them to just be the two boys they are meant to be, eternal rivals who are fated to be together. Two Hands is that fic, where two sakura petals are falling down from separate trees but land intermingling together in perfect harmony. I can't tell you how much I love this fanfic. Go shower
thehoyden with praise.
