Rushes In 1/5 2/5 3/5 4/5 5/5 by Luce Red issen4 (drabbles, complete, shounen-ai, Ko Yong-ha/Hon Su-yon) Written for the drabble community stagesoflove, this series beautifully showcases Yong-Ha and Su-Yon, some of the minor characters of Hikago. You don't learn much about them in the series, and Luce takes what you do know and makes fascinating character development out of it. Plus hotness! Musnt't forget that.

Twenty Diversions by assyrian (oneshot, meme, gen, Isumi) Hmmm, hard to categorize this piece. It reads like a mini fic with Isumi's thought and feeling of go and the go players around him, but at the same time, it's a wonderful insight of him as a person in general. This introspective Isumi is very attractive to read in any case.

Actually, igo players are mostly not the sort of people who outgrow believing in fairy tales, and perhaps this is why Isumi has noticed that Go players like to talk about the Hand of God

Two by nopejr (ficlet, shounen-ai, AkiraxHikaru) Author of Hikaru no Golf (which I believe I've recced before) nopejr answers the tough question of how Touya Akira can stand being around Hikaru.

Taboo by Ju reality_is (oneshot, AU, shouen-ai, OgataxAshiwara) Ashiwara tempts Ogata-sensei. Fantastic and the best use of a boys' love cliche ever written. ^_^

AkiHika 50 themes by umeko_pyon (drabbles, ongoing, shounen-ai AkiraxHikaru) So, I was going to recommend from umeko_pyon's list of themes individually, but I just went through them all today, and there's not a couple that I would want to recommend above the other. They're all wonderful. Some deal with Hikaru and Akira doing everday type activites, others are like perfectly executed expositions of the manga/anime. I just enjoyed reading all of them and I think everyone else would, too.

Just Desserts by thehoyden (oneshot, crossover, Hikaru no Go/Antique Baker, shounen-ai) Touya Akira and Shindou Hikaru stumble upon the Antique Bakery.

Apparently, Pageboy agreed, and Ono's eyes widened a bit as he saw Pageboy freeze when Bleached-bangs sucked the errant custard off his fingertip. Well, well.

Ono was only a man. A really, really gay man. And it was his duty to encourage gay love between parties who were decidedly under his dating age limit. In short, it was time to take matters into his own hands.

A Hangover You Deserve and its sequel Aftermath by svz_insanity (complete, shounen-ai, Hikaru, Akira) Hikaru and Akira have an arguement with Hikaru having to retrieve a drunk Touya afterwards.

Metaphor by marksykins (oneshot, shounen-ai, Hikaru, Akira) It's kind of like they're the only ones in the room.

The Games of Wu by marksykins (oneshot, gen, Hikaru, Akira) I'm not sure how to recommend this fic. There's just so much character development and the interaction between Hikaru and Akira is way beyond what I can write down. There's go and Sai and just everything between Hikaru and Touya is beautiful here.

Bloodstone by K. Stonham aka K. Huntsman (complete, gen, Hikaru, Akira) If there are ghosts in the Hikaru no Go universe, might there not also be vampires? Hmm, I'm not sure what else to say that the author doesn't say in her trailer, but this is fantastic. Long and plotty, this deals beautifully with the idea of Hikaru and Akira being friends as well as rivals. Plus vampires! Ack, just ignore me and go read it!

Metonymy (The Ragin' Meijin Remix) by mousapelli (oneshot, shounen-ai, Hikaru, Akira) Four Meijin matches that Touya Akira doesn't win, and one that's still up for debate. Oh my, you all have to read this fic now. You have to read all the others, too, but after that (or before or in between) read this one. Just so clever with both great characterization of Hikaru and Akira and wonderful looks at their lives.

But speaking of recent trends, I think it'd be fun to analyse all the 'trends' of hikago fandom. :o

I don't think there's really any trends to the Hikago fandom just yet. I think the most you can say is that fanfic authors seem to be getting more adventurous in the fanodm: more willing to write AUs and take the characters in directions not explicitly stated in the series. This could just be authors maturing in their writing and handle of the series though. I'm not sure.

It's not like Hikago is like FMA or Death note for example, there's no new canon for fans to play with or grow with as the series progress. I guess since the series wasn't instantly popular when it was fansubbed, we don't have as much of a fandom growing with the series as other fandoms can boast.
