shinra_lackey: (PoT Kirakins - Ryoma)

I admit that most of these fic recs have been shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] issen4. That is all.

Victory Road part 1 2 3 by [livejournal.com profile] trinityhelix (series, WIP, gen, Ryoma, Fudomine)
Are You There, Karupin? It's Me, Kaidoh by [livejournal.com profile] garlandgraves (oneshot, shounen-ai, Seigaku regulars, crack!)

Trial Test by [livejournal.com profile] disutansu (oneshot, shounen-ai, InuKai)

Endgame by [livejournal.com profile] flonnebonne (ficlet, gen, au, Ryoma, Tezuka) A meeting between Tezuka and Echizen if Echizen did not go to Seigaku junior high. What I really like about this ficlet is all the possibilities that arise from this one change and the implications for Ryoma and the whole tennis world of Tenipuri. Plus I am a [livejournal.com profile] flonnebonne fangirl. :)

Language by [livejournal.com profile] tarigwaemir (oneshot, gen, Ryoma, Shinji) Ryoma and Shinji consider the advantages and disadvantages of privilege. A character piece of both Shinji and Ryoma, what I really love about this fic is the author's allusion between tennis and language. I really understood what he/she was trying to say and I'll leave it at that so as not to just divulge the whole plot to everyone.

King by [livejournal.com profile] prillalar (oneshot, gen, Ryoma, Atobe, Tezuka) The first in the Ryoma-plays-tennis-in-a-different-school series of fics going around, [livejournal.com profile] prillalar reminds me why I love Prince of Tennis even though I've stopped reading the manga and haven't finished the anime. Ryoma is just so wonderful in his single minded quest to be the best tennis player out there, be it through his new buchou, Atobe rather than Tezuka. The author also does a lovely job fleshing out Hyotei and their group dynamic in a relatively short fic. Lovely read.

Champions part 1/2 2/2 by [livejournal.com profile] assyrian (complete, gen, Ryoma, Rikkai) 2nd in the Ryoma-plays-tennis-in-a-different-school genre, [livejournal.com profile] assyrian just blows me away with how much understanding he/she has for Rikkai. The characters are fleshed out beautifully and the friendship between Ryoma and Kirihara makes me wish I understood Rikkai half as well as he/she does. Just wow.

Ryoma pulled his cap down, looked away. “I lose everyday,” he said.

“Oh? Is that so?” Yukimura’s eyes were like the reflection of a cloudless sky on still water. It was that strange feeling again, the feeling of intensity running through your every nerve. Yukimura’s arms were wasted and skinnier than a girl’s. He was incredibly strong. Ryoma couldn't compare it to anything else he'd ever seen.

Yukimura stood up; the moment passed. “Whether you win or lose, there’s something lacking in your tennis,” he said, and it was Yukimura’s turn to look away. “Until then, you’re not even worth defeating.”

Victory Road part 1 2 3 by [livejournal.com profile] trinityhelix (series, WIP, gen, Ryoma, Fudomine) Ryoma in Fudomine. I love the team dynamics here, and of course Tachibana would make an awesome buchou for Ryoma.

Training in Fudomine was hard.

Hard because of the fact that manual labor seemed to factor into keeping the courts fit for use, and harder because they used improvised materials for everything but the tennis balls and the uniforms on their backs.

They mixed cement in tin cans and stuck metal pipes in the soft grey center; makeshift weights drying in the sun. Ryoma experimented with a bicep curl and was pleasantly surprised at the balance.

The bench press weight was longer than the dumbbells, and this they made from prying one of the vertical poles off the fence. (Kamio made him promise not to tell Tachibana.)

Are You There, Karupin? It's Me, Kaidoh by [livejournal.com profile] garlandgraves (oneshot, shounen-ai, Seigaku regulars, crack!) Summary: Growing up is… uh, hard. :P God, I don't think I could give this fic the credit it deserves for the crack it's smoking. Wow.

Tenisu no Boifrendo by [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli (oneshot, shounen-ai, OT5, cracklicious) I don't want to spoil the fic, so I'll just leave you with the summary: Tezuka is sure that his boyfriends are making fun of him, but he can't exactly put his finger on how.

In a Tight Spot by [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli (oneshot, shounen-ai, EchizenxShinji) You know, I really love the EchizenxShinji pairing. Great characterization of Shinji and all of Fudomine, plus wonderfully bratty Ryoma. Plus grip tape. The best of all worlds.

Best Laid (The Easy as Pi Remix) by [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli (oneshot, shounen-ai, InuKai) Tezuka becomes concerned about how much time Inui is spending with Kaidoh. Inui investigates. A wonderful remix of According To by [livejournal.com profile] prillalar.

Induction of Laughter: Introduction Experiment 1 2 3 and 4 5 by [livejournal.com profile] ilanabean42 (series, complete, Seigaku Regulars, crack!)

Given the amount of pressure (largely self-imposed) on the aforementioned Tezuka, the regular members of the Seigaku tennis club chose to investigate ways of making Tezuka laugh with the goal of relieving some of the pressure.

Trial Test by [livejournal.com profile] disutansu (oneshot, shounen-ai, InuKai) A cute, little InuKai fic with Inui juice and naive!freshmen. What more could you ask for?

The news reports about underage fiction laws in Australia and Canada make me scared (especially because I live in Canada).

You're welcome for the recs. ^^

The fiction laws scare the bejeezus out of me, too. I live in the US, but the way that censorship is going I fear for my continued liberties. It's really sad that things have progressed to this degree. I don't want anyone to be labeled a pedophile just for having fictional work on their computer. Because, really, who does it hurt? If you're going to prosecute someone for a possible predilection they may develop in the future, wouldn't all future acts have to prosecuted? Like possible murderers, rapists, arsonists, etc.

Fandoms in anime particulary seem to fall under this under 18 clause (not to mention HP, which was already discussed). Think about Hikago, Tenipuri, FMA, KKM, HxH, and all of the other shounen and shounen-ai series out there. Everyone is a teenager. So if you write a PWP fic with any of these characters, you're going to be prosecuted like you condone child porn. When in fact, you just like fictional, totally unrealistic boy!smex.

I don't even want to get into shota manga (which I edit and might be prosecuted for it seems. God I just hate the fact that people are on witch hunts, because there's a chance that someone with underage fiction might be a sexual predator.

Good points! Censorship laws shouldn't conflate fiction and non-fiction. With image-porn, it's fairly obvious when a real child is being abused (ie. live action video or photography porn)--but words are a lot airier fairier. On the one hand it means words are less likely to be censored than images...but once they do start getting censored, it's harder to know where the legality line will be drawn.

Sure you can friend me, but I have to warn you that I recommend a lot of different fandoms, so I hope you don't mind bombardments of recs that might not be in your fandoms.

I also hope to have another Hikago rec set done tonight for Hikago day. We'll see.

*waves* hi~! Um, well, I was really just wondering if you'd mind if I friended you? I'm always looking for a few good recs, and it looks like you have a TON :) (and, for some reason, I can't ever find good TeniPuri or HikaGo ones, so I love you for that, too.)

Sure! It's always nice to know that I'm helping people find good fics. I don't always update as often as I like, but I'll try to be more prolific.

*blushes madly* Thank you so much for the rec of Champions and the Isumi-fic (and oh my goodness, you managed to chase down the new locations! Despite my relentless deleting and shifting and generally driving everyone's links crazy.)

I don't know if you've spotted it yet, but [livejournal.com profile] storyteller has been working on Firestarter, which is a Ryoma at Yamabuki fic. She's a great writer, so it's worth checking out.
